Mixed structures steel-concrete
- Steel beams can be strengthened by a concrete compression layer.
- In case of compartmentalization a mixed structure of concrete columns with steel beams can sometimes be very useful. The steel beams can rest on consoles (pinned connection), but they can also be attached to the concrete columns with a rigid connection.
- Steel profiles can obtain a certain degree of fire resistance by filling them with concrete.
